How to Jailbreak iPod Touch 4g on iOS 4.2 or 4.2.1 (tethered):
NOTE: THIS IS A TETHERED JAILBREAK! FOR THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TETHERED AND UNTETHERED CLICK HERE
1. Download Redsn0w (Windows) here (Mac) here
2. Download the iPod Touch 4g 4.2 or 4.2.1 firmware here
3. When finished downloading, extract Redsn0w (if needed)
4. Open Redsn0w by, right clicking on it and running it as administrator (it is okay if it does not give you the option to "Run as Administrator," just proceed with opening it normally)
5. Once open, select "browse", and browse for your 4.2 or 4.2.1 firmware (.ipsw file)
6. Once your ipsw is verified click next
7. Let it do it's thing
8. Once on the select options screen select "Cydia" only (unless you wish otherwise) and proceed
9. Once on the next page, read explanation, and TURN OFF your device while still connected to your computer
10. Now be ready from here on everything is fast paced
11. BEFORE YOU PROCEED go over what will be on the next page which will be: A. hold power button for 3 seconds. B. Then while still holding the power button hold the home button and hold the combination for 10 seconds. C. Then release the power button while still holding on to the home button and hold the home button for approximately 30 seconds
12. Once you've gone over the procedure press next
13. hold the power button for 3 seconds
14. While still holding the power button hold the home button and hold the combination for 10 seconds
15. Release the power button while still holding on to the home button and hold down the home button for approximately 30 seconds
16. Give it 10-20 minutes do do it's thing
17. When done, go on the device, find the Cydia icon
18. If it is white or just does not open read on, if it is brown and opens fine then you are done
19. If your Cydia icon is white then you will need to boot your iPod Touch as tethered
19. If your Cydia icon is white then you will need to boot your iPhone as tethered
How to boot your tethered iPod Touch 4g (fixing damaged Cydia):
1. Connect your device to your computer
2. Launch Redsn0w
3. Browse for your 4.2 or 4.2.1 firmware (.ipsw file)
5. Once verified select "next"
6. Let Redsn0w do it's thing
7. Next, DESELECT CYDIA AND EVERYTHING ELSE, and only select "Just boot tethered right now" and continue
8. Now turn your device off while still plugged in, and get ready to do the following process A. hold power button for 3 seconds. B. Then while still holding the power button hold the home button and hold the combination for 10 seconds. C. Then release the power button while still holding on to the home button and hold the home button for approximately 30 seconds
9. Once you've gone over the procedure, press next
10. Hold the power button for 3 seconds
11. While still holding the power button hold the home button and hold the combination for 10 seconds
12. Release the power button while still holding on to the home button and hold down the home button for approximately 30 seconds
13. A pineapple logo should appear on your device, if it as an apple logo that's fine to
14. Give it while to boot up it should take anywhere for 1-7 minutes
15. Go into "Cydia" and it should be working fine
16. Remember, if you are on a tethered jailbreak you must run this process every time your iPod Touch requires a reboot
17. And your done!
How to Jailbreak iPod Touch 4g on iOS 4.1 (untethered):
Method #1:
1. Download limra1n by geohot at: http://www.limera1n.com
2. Connect your device
3. Open limera1n
4. Click "make it ra1n"
5. After done "entering recovery..." Hold down the "home + power"
6. After about 5-8 seconds, "release the power button," and hold done the home button until the limra1n logo appears on your device
7. Once the jailbreaking process is complete, find the new white or green icon on your device
8. Open the application
9. Download Cydia
10. When done, go back into the original application and uninstall it by pressing the red minus button.
11. Open the new Cydia application
12. And your done!
Method #2:
1. Download greenpois0n here
2. Connect your device
3. Turn off your device while connected to your computer
4. Open greenpois0n
5. Click "Prepare to Jailbreak (DFU)"
6. Hold the power button (top button) for 3 seconds
7. Hold the Home button (bottom button) + the Power button for 10 seconds
8. Release the Power Button
9. Continue to hold the Home Button until the screen on the program is changed
10. Press "Jailbreak"
11. Codes will start rushing down on your device, no matter what happens and no matter what the codes say, don't panic and DO NOT DISCONNECT YOUR DEVICE!
12. When the process is complete go on your iPod Touch and find the application that says "Loader" (NOTE: if you do not have "Loader," DO NOT PANIC you can just go straight to your new "Cydia" icon
13. Once in "Loader" press on "Cydia" and then select "Install Cydia"
14. Now you should have the "Cydia" icon on your screen
15. And your done!
